Last year here in Oz, we voted out a vain, corrupt, out-of-touch leader. (He was so vain, corrupt & out of touch, he didn't even keep his seat in parliament - that was extra sweet.)
This year, the Americans have removed a vain, corrupt, out-of-touch leader, and his party. Congratulations!
We could never be sure it would happen. Mrs Clinton was OK, but seemed to have that old "play the man not the ball" personal attacking style. Mr Obama was clearly different. Mr McCain came across as a fairly decent man fatally attached to the aforesaid corrupt party. Eg. his first choice of VP was way better than the one he was given. And I will always remember him pushing down the idiotic booers at his concession speech.
But it's happened. The hope radiating out of Obama's words, the shining faces listening... I tell you what, it's given us in the rest of the world some hope. Any more republicanism & the economy, the environment & society would definitely have been past saving.
Americans, you're an energetic, hopeful, decent bunch of people, led too often by greedy immoral men. Let Obama make a difference. I'm sorry to say, yes, he is a politician, but a brave one. With vision. Give him a go. Help get rid of the corruption. Demand he do so. Demand he stop immoral wars, & work for peace not Halliburton. Please don't shoot him.
I told my children, "you are watching a moment in history." We're all watching.
